Per the HUD.Gov website, “The Fair Housing Act protects people from discrimination when they are renting or buying a home, getting a mortgage, seeking housing assistance, or engaging in other housing-related activities.”
The Fair Housing Act prohibits discrimination in housing because of race, color, national origin, sex (including gender identity and sexual orientation), familial status, and disability.
Each state and local municipality can also have their own fair housing laws which may extend beyond the federal protections. Please take time to look those up and review them as well.
Fair housing is a major issue and should be taken very seriously.
